How to Clean Your Wedding Ring at Home

Ever taken off your ring for a while ‘cause it’s been sitting at the jeweller’s for a little cleaning sesh and people asked if everything is fine?

If there’s a jewellery piece that gets worn everyday, it has to be a wedding ring. Afterall, it was built to last a lifetime, no doubt about that.

But the amount of times your bling accumulates dirt makes you doubt if you’re wearing the same ring.

You can get a cleaner wedding ring at home, without the run to the jeweller’s. And no, you don’t need those tools you see on TikTok.

What You Need to Get a Squeaky Clean Wedding Ring

Get warm water, mild baby shampoo, an eyebrow brush or soft-bristled toothbrush, and a lint-free cloth

1. Then, mix warm water with drops of the shampoo in a bowl.

2. Let your diamond ring soak in the solution for about 20 minutes (not more).

3. After taking the ring out, gently clean the ring with the brush to remove the grime and dirt stuck under the diamond setting.

4. Rinse the ring under lukewarm water.

5. Use a lint-free cloth to soak excess moisture or let it air dry.

You can also mix baking soda with some warm water instead of baby shampoo, but don’t soak it for more than 15-20 minutes.

What NOT to Do While Cleaning Your Wedding Ring

Scrub-scrub. Wipe-wipe. Cleaning a ring like it’s a tug of war.

That precious wedding ring of yours doesn’t need tough love.

If you get the ingredients right, you’ll get most of the grime and manage to not make scratches on the surfaces.

Soak your ring for sometime in a bowl and clean it gently over a countertop with a lint-free cloth. Whichever you choose, make sure you’re not cleaning it over a sink; metal surfaces get slippery with water and you may lose your ring in the drain.

Any bleaches or abrasive cleaners may also do more harm than good, so keep them away from your diamond ring. While they may not affect the diamond itself, but may compromise your metal quality.

Still Need Professional Cleaning?

Cleaning your wedding ring at home gives you a convenient way of maintaining hygiene and keeping your ring shining bright.

But what if your diamond ring has more intricate details or is set with multiple gemstones? There might still be some dirt stuck in there. For special cleaning you can always rely on a jeweller. While this might need a visit to the store, you can try if you can get most of the dirt out at home.
