Māori Wheku Tiki Face Wooden Wall Art Panel – Rimu Finish with Pāua Shell Eyes - WPWH

Wheku – A Powerful Expression of Māori Heritage, Strength & Ancestral Connection

Bring the beauty and cultural richness of New Zealand Māori-inspired artistry into your home with this beautifully detailed Wheku Tiki Face Wooden Wall Art Panel.

The Wheku is a stylised human face found in traditional Māori carving, particularly in the decorative forms of whakairo (Māori wood carving). Such faces can represent ancestors, identity, whakapapa (genealogy) and the enduring connections between generations.

Wheku designs are recognised for their expressive facial features, including prominent eyes, intricately shaped brows, flowing spirals and distinctive mouth patterns.

In traditional Māori art, these features can carry important cultural meaning, reflecting ancestral presence, mana (prestige and authority), strength and the passing of knowledge and traditions from one generation to the next.

The expressive face of the Wheku is often associated with the preservation of cultural identity and the connection between the past, present and future.

This contemporary interpretation captures the distinctive character of traditional Māori-inspired facial carving in an elegant decorative design, creating a meaningful artwork that celebrates New Zealand's rich artistic heritage.

Beautifully Crafted with Exceptional Fine Detail

Proudly made in New Zealand, this elegant wall art panel is crafted from plantation-grown Gaboon wood, carefully precision-cut to achieve exceptionally fine detail and an impressive layered, three-dimensional appearance.

The central Wheku face features beautifully defined traditional-inspired patterns, including:

• Intricate forehead detailing – Geometric patterns and flowing decorative elements create a striking symmetrical design.
• Expressive facial features – Carefully shaped brows, nose and cheeks give the artwork its distinctive character.
• Shimmering pāua shell eyes – Two beautiful iridescent accents reflect shades of blue, green and turquoise.
• Traditional-inspired spiral patterns – Decorative spirals enhance the cheeks and contribute to the flowing design.
• Elaborate mouth detailing – Intricately layered curves and fine engraved patterns create exceptional depth and visual interest.

The warm golden tones of the Gaboon wood contrast beautifully against the deep black recessed oval background, allowing every carefully crafted detail to stand out.

Surrounding the central carving is a rich Rimu-finish wooden panel, complemented by a bold black backing that creates a sophisticated and contemporary appearance.

The combination of natural timber tones, striking black contrast and colourful pāua shell makes this artwork an eye-catching addition to both traditional and modern interiors.
