Hand Carved 21st Wahaika on Base with Island Patterns with Paua Shell Eyes
This carved Maori Wahaika Club on stand with island design which makes a great gift for a 21st birthday.
This type of weapon is ceremonial and practical. Waha-ika means the mouth of the fish. If you look at the shape of the weapon it looks like the shape of a whales’ lower jaw bone. Many waha-ika have a small figure carved on the side. This figure would be a guardian to the owner and would often be venerated ancestor.
Proudly made in New Zealand from tulip wood, a sustainably harvested hardwood. There are always very slight differences in colours and carvings of hand carved products.
Engraving on the front of the base stand can be done either with a Golden Plaque or Laser Engraved.
