Large Carved Maori Hei Matau (Fish Hook) from Kauri Wood with Paua Shell Eyes on Stand

This large carved Maori Hei Matau on stand makes a great gift for a 21st birthday or that special celebration or milestone in life.

The matau or hei matau is a stylized fish hook. According Maori legend, the North Island of New Zealand was once a hugh fish that was caught by the great mariner Maui using a bone hook on a woven line. The matau represents strength, good luck and safe travel across water.

Proudly made in New Zealand from Kauri wood. There are always very slight differences in colours and carvings of hand carved products.

To avoid offending any Iwi or tribal groups, the designs are generic and representative of common Maori motifs.

Engraving on the front of the base stand can be done either with a Golden Plaque or Laser Engraved.
