New Zealand Hand-Carved Marakihau with Pāua Shell Eyes on Wooden Display Base – 36cm - WM924B

Traditional-Inspired New Zealand Craftsmanship

Celebrate the beauty of New Zealand wood carving with this magnificent hand-carved Marakihau, crafted from NZ hardwood and beautifully mounted on a matching wooden display base.

Inspired by the Marakihau, a mythical sea creature found in Māori traditions, this striking carving showcases intricate detailing, flowing patterns and expressive features that reflect the distinctive character of Māori-inspired artistry.

The tall, sculptural design features a prominent carved head with dramatic facial features, beautifully enhanced by natural New Zealand pāua shell eyes. The shimmering blue and green tones of the pāua create a captivating contrast against the rich brown hardwood.

The elongated body displays carefully carved flowing patterns, curved detailing and decorative openings, giving the piece depth, texture and a distinctive three-dimensional appearance. Its warm wood finish highlights the natural grain and craftsmanship throughout.

Standing an impressive 360mm (36cm) tall, this Marakihau is securely mounted on a rectangular wooden display base measuring 150mm x 120mm, providing a stable and elegant presentation.
