• Pearls and mother of pearl are soft: put them on last, after perfume, hairspray and make-up.
• Wipe with a soft cloth after wearing. For an occasional deeper clean, use a soft brush with warm, mildly soapy water, then let it dry completely; a pearl strand should lie flat until the thread is dry.
• Never use ultrasonic or steam cleaners, jewellery dips or household chemicals, and do not swim or shower in them.
• Store them on their own in a soft pouch, not in a plastic bag or an airtight box, so they cannot be scratched or dried out.
• A silver polishing cloth can be used on the sterling silver parts only; keep it off the pearl or stone.
