Jewellery grouped by the metal it is made from.

Choose gold for warmth and value — the carat tells you how much pure gold it contains (9ct is 37.5%, 14ct 58.5%, 18ct 75%). Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and more affordable, and rose gold is gold alloyed with copper for a pink tone. The metal is stated on every listing.

Matching the metal to the piece

Gold and sterling silver make up nearly all of this range, with a small number of stainless steel and gold plated pieces. Gold pieces are mostly 9ct, with some 10ct, 14ct and 18ct, and a single 22ct item.

Start with what the person already wears. If their watch, wedding ring or everyday earrings are yellow, a yellow gold piece will sit comfortably beside them. White gold and silver suit anyone who wears cooler tones.

Think about how often the piece will be worn. Rings and bracelets take more knocks than earrings or pendants, so check the listed metal and purity for anything worn daily. Gold plated means a thin layer of gold over a different base metal, and that layer can wear with time.
